Group travel: why choose to go?

Why go on organized group trips?

That’s a great question—the existential dilemma every traveler has faced in recent years.

We know: you’re skeptical. That’s understandable, especially if you’re used to traveling solo and independently. Taking a group trip may seem impossible, unthinkable, and yes (you’re thinking it, admit it...) a bit lame: why should you go on organized tours, rely on a group travel tour operator (good grief, “tour operator” sounds incredibly old-fashioned) when you can explore the world on your own? What’s the point?

We know what you’re thinking because we’ve been there too: at Sto Gran Tour, we started out as solo travelers. Then we grew into travel documentary makers, used to traveling alone, on our own schedule and according to our own needs. But trust us when we say there are plenty of reasons to travel in a group.

So the question was: why choose organized trips for young travelers?

You may be surprised by the answer. Ready? Here it is: group travel doesn’t rule out solo travel.

Had you ever thought about that? One doesn’t exclude the other, because they are two completely different ways of experiencing a trip. While traveling alone means dedicating time to yourself, and maybe having an experience that relies only on your own abilities, choosing a group adventure trip means choosing to share, choosing to experience travel as discovery—especially from a human point of view.

It’s true, you’re not the one organizing the trip, but for the first time you’ll experience a different feeling: not being the one in charge, but allowing yourself to be guided. We know that for a solo traveler this can be a sensitive point, because let’s face it, planning a trip is one of the most fun parts. But have you ever thought that you might go through a period that’s so busy, so intense, that you simply don’t have the time—or even the desire—to organize it yourself? It happened to us too, and we’re not ashamed of it.

Meeting new people, having your mind focused solely on the pleasure of the journey, and knowing that you’re never alone are feelings that open your mind and broaden your perspective. On group trips, you’ll rarely find uninteresting people or people who aren’t suited to travel: you’ll meet travelers you never would have met otherwise, and you’ll create bonds so strong that you won’t want to give them up in the future.

In short, if you’ve never traveled in a group, this could be the perfect time to try. Go for it!

PS: ONE WARNING!
That doesn’t mean every tour operator on the web organizes decent trips for young people. Quite the opposite. If you don’t want to end up on a minibus full of retirees, if you want to avoid trips where your only freedom of choice is between the meat or fish dinner menu (just thinking about it sends a shiver down the spine), you’d better travel with Sto Gran Tour, the guru of adventure travel.

Here you can find all our group trips. You won’t regret it.
