This Great Journey in Nepal Annapurna

Pack your backpack and warm up those quads: one of the most beautiful treks in the world is waiting for us, perfect for anyone who loves hiking. We’re heading to Nepal, to Annapurna Base Camp!

This Sto Gran Viaggio Avventura group trip lasts 14 days, and this time, no cars. Just us, our legs, the Sherpas, and one goal to reach: taking in all the mountains in the area.
We designed the itinerary together with local guides and professionals. We start in Kathmandu, then head to Pokhara, where our trek begins. From Ghandruk to Annapurna Base Camp, we walk through sacred forests, waterfalls, Tibetan shrines, valleys, and suspension bridges. Can you believe it?! We sleep in teahouses and pass through rural villages, always surrounded by giants rising nearly (or even well over) 7,000 meters. Those names that make your knees shake just reading them: Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machapuchare. Just to name a few.

It’s an incredible experience, and as such it calls for incredible people: with you there will always be a Sto Gran Tour leader and a local guide, who will be our key point of reference throughout the journey. During the treks, porters will support us by carrying the luggage.

You probably have 1,236 questions in your head, which is why you’ll find all the answers in the FAQ section (go check it out!). In the meantime, here’s a big recap of some of the amazing highlights we’ll experience together:

🍌 Kathmandu and its temples
🍌 A visit to Pokhara
🍌 Rafting on the Trishuli River
🍌 Sherpa villages

We don’t travel to say “I’ve been there,” but to feel “damn, I’ve changed.” We’ll take you on the most beautiful (and highest) adventure trip of your life. Everything you imagine, and then some.
Annapurna Base Camp, here we come!

Deposit, balance and insurance

Here’s how payments work:

🍌 A deposit is due at the time of registration to confirm your spot.
🍌 The remaining balance must be paid 45 days before departure, directly from your personal area.
🍌 You can pay by bank transfer or by card.
🍌 The final trip price, including any extras you select, will be shown during the registration process, in your confirmation email, and in your personal area.

🍌 Before departure, you can take out trip cancellation insurance, which covers you in case of cancellation according to the cases listed in the insurance PDF. You can view and download this PDF during the registration process, before confirming your trip.
🍌 If you feel that the insurance we offer does not meet your needs, you are free to purchase your own policy instead—we’ll still be friends and travel buddies.
🍌 Sto Gran Tour accepts no responsibility if the reason for a participant’s trip cancellation does not fall within the cases covered by the insurance policy.
🍌 Medical and baggage insurance is always included in the trip price.
How air travel works

🍌With us, your flight is always included in the trip price, departing from Milan or Rome depending on the departure date.
🍌For an additional fee, you can choose a different departure airport. For example: Catania, Naples, Bologna, London… your call. And if you can’t find your airport, just write to us.
🍌The group may have different flight schedules, depending on airline availability and the order in which participants book.
🍌We’ll share your flight times in your personal area as soon as they become available.
🍌A booking for two people does not automatically include seats next to each other on the plane, as these come at an extra cost. However, you can request and add them from your personal area.
🍌Unless otherwise stated, the flight booking does not include a checked bag. If you really, really want to add one, fair enough! You can do so from your personal area.
🍌If you are absent at the airport on the day of departure due to personal unforeseen circumstances, delays or cancellations of connecting flights, or other transport disruptions, you will need to reach the destination independently with another flight at your own expense. We’ll help you find a new flight, provided you buy the first round of beers when you catch up with us.
The flight-free option

If you’d prefer to arrange your own flights, no problem! You can select the “without flights” option when you sign up. We’ll deduct the flight cost from the total trip price, and that’s it. Please note:

🍌 With the “without flights” option, airport transfers are not included.
🍌 With the “without flights” option, internal flights are still included and arranged by us.
🍌 With the “without flights” option, we ask you to share the flight times you’d like to book, so we can confirm whether they are compatible with the rest of the group.
🍌 With the “without flights” option, before purchasing your flights, you must wait until the trip is confirmed. If you buy them before confirmation, we will not refund the airfare portion.
Types of accommodation

The room arrangements are indicated in the “Accommodation and transport” tab, in the section “Boring but important things to know” that you’ll find on this page. Depending on the departure date and the trip, the arrangement shown on the website may vary from what is described. For this reason, you will never see it stated that a specific room type (double, triple, or quadruple) is guaranteed with 100% certainty. This is simply because we often do not have full control over suppliers’ availability. Please also keep in mind that on a group trip, sharing is part of the travel experience: besides an incredible adventure, you may also end up sharing rooms and bathrooms. Every traveler for themselves? Come on, not quite. If having a double room is absolutely essential for you (like, truly non-negotiable), please write to us before departure! That way we can avoid problems, misunderstandings, and unnecessary hassle for both sides. Sounds like a fair deal?
Sto Gran Tour Team Leader

When you travel with Sto Gran Tour, you’re always accompanied by a Tour Leader.

We don’t work with polished influencers who turn travel into something just for social media, and we don’t collaborate with people who are only looking for a free trip. Our Tour Leaders are certified guides: experienced, passionate young men and women, as well as qualified tour escorts with official licenses.

The Tour Leader supports the group throughout the trip, taking care of logistics and practical matters. From choosing the right tire pressure in Namibia to giving advice on tuk-tuks in Sri Lanka. From deciding the winner of an axe-throwing contest in Iceland to estimating the right amount of supplies before heading into the desert. The Tour Leader coordinates the schedule and is always in touch with the office staff and local partners.

Typically, a Sto Gran Tour Leader is a young, good-looking, friendly, and fun human being. And no, we’re absolutely not biased.
Group and travel companions

Groups usually consist of 3 to 17 people, plus a Trip Leader. The exact number varies depending on the trip. The average age on our trips is generally between 25 and 45, with some exceptions.

Our groups usually include people from all over Italy, and they’re open-minded travelers who love new experiences. You don’t need to be an experienced traveler, and you don’t need to have joined a group trip before. It also doesn’t matter whether you’re traveling solo, with your girlfriend, or with your dad. What really matters is the spirit you bring with you: the desire and curiosity to explore and experience the world. It’ll be what you imagine — but even better.

About a month before departure, we’ll open the Wazzzzup group so you can start getting to know the other participants. You’ll find the Sto Gran Gruppo link in your personal area.

We confirm and activate the trip once we have at least 4 to 6 participants. If we don’t reach the minimum number, you can change your departure date free of charge to the next available one, either for the same destination or for a different one. Or you can request a full refund. So when will you know whether the trip is confirmed or not? About a month before departure, when we review the final number of participants.

P.S. Are you cursing us out because you’d love to travel with us, but think you’re outside the age range? Write to us — we might still be able to travel together. And in the worst-case scenario, at least you’ll be able to insult us in person.
Group confirmation

Almost all of our trips are confirmed. For groups that are still awaiting confirmation, we will send you regular updates through your personal area. If we do not reach the minimum number of participants (generally 3), you can change your date free of charge to the closest available departure, either for the same destination or a different one, or receive a full refund. For trips with only one departure date, the "Trip Status" is shown.
Travel itinerary and changes

Even if you’re joining an organized trip, the spirit is that of a true road trip. Absolutely! This is a real journey: unexpected events, pleasant unplanned stops along the way, breaks, weather-related obstacles, and more. In practical terms, what does that mean?

🍌The itinerary, as well as the order of the days, may change.
🍌Nature is in charge. We do not provide refunds of the amount paid for program changes caused by weather conditions.
🍌Mechanical issues can happen. We do not provide refunds of the amount paid for program changes caused by mechanical problems (for example: a flat tire, a blown fuse, a broken window, a stolen side mirror, and similar situations).
🍌If travel days or activities are missed due to bad weather or issues caused by suppliers, we will try to make them up if the group agrees to the new travel solution and only if the Trip Leader considers it feasible.
🍌The layout/size of the means of transport and accommodations may differ from what is indicated in the travel program due to local availability.
Do you walk a lot? Should I prepare physically?

Yes, we do a lot of walking: 6 days in a row, from 4 to 8 hours a day. We hike up from Ghandruk, at about 1,500 meters, to Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 meters. It’s best to arrive with your legs already trained. As for the swearing, you’ll find plenty of that on site, free of charge.

You don’t need to be a mountaineer to join Sto Gran Viaggio: no ropes and no crampons required. We walk along trails, cross suspension bridges, and tackle plenty of ups and downs.

Oh! You won’t be carrying the big backpack yourself: porters will help us. And we’ll also be accompanied by sherpas, one for every two people.
How can you prevent altitude sickness?

On this great journey through Nepal, we will reach high altitudes. To help your body adjust, during the first few days of the trip it will be important to eat lightly and drink plenty of fluids. With these precautions, most people experience no problems beyond a mild headache. Within two days, it is usually possible to move around comfortably. In any case, we have carefully designed the itinerary to ensure the best possible acclimatization. For example, we have included dedicated stops specifically to help prevent any risk of altitude sickness.

An evening on your trip

An evening on your trip

Imagine you are in Deurali. You’re at 4,298 meters, in the teahouse where we’ll spend the night. Today has been incredible: the bamboo forest on the way to TipTop, the sacred forest of Jode Yehm, Hinku Cave. You’re settling into your room while you hear some of your fellow travelers sharing their last chats of the evening and dreaming about tomorrow. Base camp awaits us. You feel that you still haven’t fully taken in what you’re experiencing—and what you’re about to experience. Deep down, you wonder whether you ever truly will. After all, you’re about to make your dream come true. You think back to all those times at home when you immersed yourself in videos, books, and stories about this extraordinary mountain. And now, here you are. Tomorrow you’ll reach Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 meters. You switch off the little light and darkness falls over the room: life can be incredible. See you tomorrow.

This Great Journey is everything you imagine—and then some.
