The most spectacular places on an island we know like the back of our hand

In Fuerteventura, it feels like summer all year round, and every few steps you take, there’s another beach at your feet—each one more stunning than the last. The problem is, if you really want to enjoy them all (and trust us, they’re worth it), you’ll end up packing your bags and moving to Fuerte.

But if you don’t have a lifetime to explore the coolest island in the Canaries from top to bottom, we’ll tell you which beaches you absolutely can’t miss so you can go straight for the best ones.

Ready? Let’s go!

The best beaches in the north of Fuerteventura

In the north of Fuerteventura, there are two places in particular with spectacular beaches that deserve a lot of love: Corralejo and El Cotillo.

Corralejo is in the northeast and is a town of just over 10,000 inhabitants. Nearby you’ll find the stunning Dunes Natural Park, a protected reserve with wide stretches of fine white sand—so unbelievably beautiful it feels like you’ve arrived in paradise.

The beaches in this area are a favorite among surfers, who love the emerald waters, perfect for board sports enthusiasts. To be fair, Fuerteventura is packed with ideal surf spots, so choosing the best one is no easy task. But for us, the little beaches of Corralejo are the top choice for this activity. In fact, during our Fuerte tour, we offer participants the chance to take a great beginner surf lesson right here.

El Cotillo is on the other side of the island, on the northwest coast. It’s a beautiful little village that began as a fishing settlement and is now the perfect place for anyone looking for a laid-back atmosphere and great little restaurants where you can feast on amazing paella.

Here too, as is typical of the island, you’ll find lots of little beaches with brilliant white sand and crystal-clear water. And the town’s position makes everything even more spectacular: thanks to its orientation, you can catch incredible sunsets, with the sun dipping into the water and painting it in countless shades from yellow to orange, each one more beautiful than the last.

The south of Fuerte has plenty of amazing beaches too

In the south, there are 3 incredible beaches you really shouldn’t miss for any reason.

The first is Playa de Cofete, a wild beauty stretching for over 2.5 kilometers along the island’s southwestern coast, within Jandía Natural Park. This beach is a true masterpiece of nature, with a landscape so dramatically beautiful that it will leave you standing there, mouth open, for hours just admiring the view.

The mountains towering over it create a breathtaking contrast with the fine white sand. But be careful: the sea here is often rough, so unless you’re highly experienced, it’s best to leave the surfboard at home and simply enjoy the beach, stretched out and doing absolutely nothing.

Then there’s Playa Sotavento de Jandía, even longer than the previous one.

It offers no less than 9 kilometers of untouched shoreline—a dream come true for anyone seeking peace and quiet.

And then there are the natural pools created by the low tide, with stunning shades of blue and turquoise. Amazing!

Finally, there’s Playa Tierra Dorada (Mal Nombre), a beach that seems straight out of a fantasy storybook. Located on the southeastern coast, between Morro Jable (another incredibly beautiful beach) and Costa Calma, this beach is a little gem. Here, the wind plays with the sand, creating dunes that seem to dance under the sun. And when the tide goes out, lagoons form, offering an almost surreal experience. The mix of colors—from the golden sand to the dark cliffs—creates a visual contrast that will leave you speechless.

That amazing black beach

Neither in the north nor in the south, but in the central part of Fuerte, there’s another incredible place: Playa de Ajuy, the black beach. It’s called that because... well, because the sand is black, right?

“But why is it black?”

Well, since you want to know everything... it’s black because it’s volcanic in origin. Happy now?

Playa de Ajuy is a feast for the eyes, not only because of the unusual color of its sand, but also because of the tones of the surrounding cliff rocks, which shift from gold to red.

And then there are the Ajuy caves, carved by the ocean over millions of years. And on top of that, they can be visited for free!

It’s also said that centuries ago pirates hid treasure from their raids in these caves. Is it still there? Has someone already taken it? Is it all a grand conspiracy to attract more visitors to the island?

Who knows. We still haven’t found anything.

In conclusion

So yes, Fuerteventura really does have loads of stunning beaches. You’re spoiled for choice, and even if the ones we’ve listed are (maybe) the best, there are plenty more that are absolutely worth experiencing in person.

But the best part is that Fuerte has so much more to offer, like Calderón Hondo, the Faro del Tostón, and plenty of other places too—such as the beautiful little village of Betancuria!

We know them all very well because, after all, Fuerteventura is where we’re based—or rather, it’s our home in every sense.

So, you’re invited too: come to Fuerte and enjoy an amazing 8-day itinerary across the whole island.

What do you say?

Get everything ready and let’s go to Fuerteventura!
