What to see in Las Vegas besides the neon blasting into your eyes

The best attractions and places in Sin City that you absolutely can’t miss

Jim Belushi once said that anything can happen in Las Vegas: truer words were never spoken!

Las Vegas is a wild place that everyone knows by name, but few have truly experienced properly. And if you’re thinking about going, well, all we can do is shake your hand and say: “About time! Great choice!”

Want to know which places and attractions in Sin City are really worth visiting?

You’ll find them in this article.

The (second) tallest observation wheel in the world

The High Roller Observation Wheel is an engineering marvel towering over the Las Vegas skyline.

At an impressive 167 meters tall, it’s a giant of an observation wheel, the largest in North America, and the perfect vantage point for taking in Las Vegas from above. In fact, until a few years ago it was even the tallest in the world, but in 2021 the United Arab Emirates decided to raise the bar and built an even taller one, reaching a staggering 250 meters.

Back to Las Vegas: the High Roller Observation Wheel features 28 spherical cabins, each able to hold up to 40 people, for a 30-minute ride above the madness of Las Vegas. It’s located in the heart of the LINQ district, one of the city’s newest areas.

The best time to ride this giant? Probably at sunset, when the desert sun kisses the horizon and the city lights up with a million dazzling lights.

The glorious chaos of the Las Vegas Strip

The Las Vegas Strip is, technically, just a road. And you might say, “That’s it? Is Las Vegas really all that?”

All that?

The Strip is pure madness! Stretching 6.8 km, it’s the beating heart of the city, lined with towering hotels, blinding neon lights, and some of the most famous casinos in the world.

There’s Caesars Palace, with its Ancient Rome-inspired façade. The Luxor, shaped like a pyramid and complete with a giant sphinx at the entrance. And then there’s The Venetian, designed to evoke Venice itself, even featuring navigable canals where gondoliers glide visitors along the water.

And of course there’s the most famous of them all, the Bellagio with its spectacular fountains, which put on an incredible water show every single day for visitors to Sin City.

The Strip is something else!

Beyond the Strip: more amazing things to do in Las Vegas

Beyond the vibrant Strip, Las Vegas has plenty more incredible highlights to show off.

Let’s start with The Mob Museum, a place that tells stories of gangsters and federal agents. Housed in the historic building that once served as the Las Vegas courthouse, this museum is the perfect way to dive into the shadowy world of organized crime and explore one of the darkest chapters in American history.

Then there’s Fremont Street Experience, an absolutely mind-blowing pedestrian area in old Vegas, covered by a massive illuminated canopy and packed with light shows, street performers, and a healthy dose of nostalgia.

And for the thrill-seekers, Las Vegas even has a zipline that lets you soar above the city until your adrenaline is through the roof.

Amazing!

The Grand Canyon is just around the corner (more or less). Are you really going to miss it?

Sure, the casinos are cool, the lights are dazzling, the gangster stories are fascinating, and flying over Las Vegas is unforgettable. But if you venture just a little outside the city, in only about two hours you’ll find yourself in one of the most spectacular natural places on Earth: the Grand Canyon.

Can you really pass up a visit when you’ve already made it all the way to Vegas?

The Grand Canyon is breathtakingly beautiful, with jaw-dropping views and rock walls that change color at sunset, setting the entire landscape ablaze.

There’s something for everyone here: hiking lovers can enjoy epic trekking adventures along the area’s trails. Water-sports fans can throw themselves into an incredible rafting experience on the rapids of the Colorado River. And geology enthusiasts can get an up-close look at unique rock formations that tell stories as old as time.

And then there’s our favorite way to enjoy it: from above. During our California road trip tour (and yes, we know the Grand Canyon is in Arizona—no need to be picky!), we take an unforgettable scenic flight over the entire area, an absolutely incredible experience that you should definitely try.

In conclusion

Vegas really is something special. So much so that it’s a regular stop on our California road trips: 13 days during which we explore a whole lot of amazing places, including the great coastal cities, Death Valley, two of the most beautiful national parks in the States, and of course, Las Vegas.

So, are we doing this epic tour or what?

We’re starting in Las Vegas, baby!
