10 things not to miss in Japan

If you want to take a trip to Japan, you should definitely know the 10 things to see in this incredible country.

10 things to see in Japan

1) ARASHIYAMA FOREST

The Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, or Bamboo Grove, is famous all over the world. As soon as you arrive, one of the first things to do is look up at the sky and lose yourself among the endless rows of towering bamboo stalks. It’s one of those places that fills you with a wonderful sense of calm... you feel serene, you feel at peace with the world.

2) MOUNT FUJI

How can you go to Japan and not make a stop at Mount Fuji? This mountain, a symbol of Japan, is not only the highest in the country but also a volcano, standing 3,776 meters tall. It is considered one of the country’s “three sacred mountains,” together with Mount Tate and Mount Haku. Its summit is snow-capped for 10 months of the year!

3) OSAKA CASTLE

Osaka Castle is certainly one of the best-known castles in Japan. It stands in the center of Osaka Castle Park (who would have guessed), one of the greenest areas in the city.

4) FUSHIMI INARI-TAISHA SHRINE

Super iconic and unmissable: Fushimi Inari Taisha is the main shrine dedicated to the kami Inari, in Kyoto, at the base of Mount Inari. Since ancient times in Japan, the deity Inari has always been seen as the patron of business and merchants. Each of the red torii at Fushimi Inari Taisha was donated by a Japanese company.

5) SENSO-JI AND MEIJI SHRINE

Sensō-ji is a Buddhist temple complex located in Tokyo’s Asakusa district. It is the oldest temple in the city, and one of the most important. The same goes for the Meiji Shinto Shrine, also in Tokyo near Harajuku Station, dedicated to the souls of Emperor Mutsuhito and his wife, Empress Shōken.

6) NARA

Nara is the ancient capital of Japan. The city is home to many historic buildings and temples, many of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. If you’re passing through, don’t miss the famous Nara Park: the deer that roam freely there are the symbol of the city.

7) HIROSHIMA

Another place you absolutely have to see in Japan is the city of Hiroshima. We all know it for its tragic history, which forever marked Japan and all of humanity: the dropping of the atomic bomb. Visiting Hiroshima can be a difficult experience, but in every corner you can feel a strong sense of rebirth.

8) HOKKAIDO

The island of Hokkaido lies in northern Japan and is quite an unusual destination. It is usually visited by travelers who have already seen the rest of Japan and, having fallen in love with it, decide to return to explore even the most remote areas. Hokkaido is pure nature: mountains, forests, and traditional onsen. Oh, and we almost forgot—bears too!

9) KANAZAWA

Kanazawa is also the city that boasts one of the three most beautiful landscape gardens in all of Japan: Kenrokuen Garden. It is a destination still little known to tourists, but not to be missed if you want to breathe in Japanese tradition, perhaps while strolling through the geisha districts of Higashi Chaya, Kazuemachi, and Nishi Chaya.

10) OKINAWA

The Okinawa Islands, in the southern Japanese archipelago, are amazing. Few people would expect it, but Japan offers this too: a true tropical paradise, with dazzling white beaches and colorful fish darting among the coral reefs.

Then again, a classic top-10 list doesn’t really do Japan justice. In truth, we know 100 more places worth mentioning. But for those, an article isn’t enough: for them, you need to set off with our JAPAN TOUR. Take a look at the itinerary!
