We created this guide to help you understand how to visit the park and which animals you can spot there.

When was Chobe National Park established?

Chobe National Park, founded in 1967, was Botswana’s first national park and is one of the most wildlife-dense parks in Africa. Covering an area of about 11,700 square kilometers, Chobe boasts a variety of habitats that support an extraordinary range of animals.

The Chobe River: The Beating Heart of the Park

The Chobe River is the beating heart of the park and serves as the main focal point for wildlife sightings. During the dry season, animals gather in great numbers along its banks to drink, creating spectacular viewing opportunities. Sunset river cruises are especially popular, as they offer a unique perspective on life in the park and the chance to see elephants, hippos, crocodiles, and a wide variety of waterbirds in their natural habitat.
