New Year’s 2025: 5 seriously cool destinations to celebrate the New Year in ways you’d never imagined

From the sheer coolness of the Northern Lights in Iceland to India, with thieving monkeys and tigers on the prowl: this New Year’s Eve will be unforgettable!

Here we are again: that time of year when the usual annoyances keep asking you the same old question:

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR NEW YEAR’S EVE…?”

Do we really have to sit through another tombola game with the aunt who shamelessly cheats and the grandpa who falls asleep at 10 p.m.? No—this year we’re doing something different. Something truly epic!

Here are five destinations for a New Year’s Eve 2025 you won’t forget anytime soon (depending on your alcohol intake!).

1. Iceland: a New Year’s Eve with the explosive power of geysers!

Let’s start in the land of fire and ice, where you can admire the Golden Circle: waterfalls that make Niagara look like a drinking fountain, geysers erupting like fireworks every five minutes, and tectonic plates pulling apart like pieces of panettone.

And that’s not all. Reynisfjara’s black sand beach awaits you with its wild waves and basalt columns that look as if they were carved by a giant who’d already had a few drinks before the midnight toast.

The evening?

In the heart of the Arctic cold, we take shelter in a wooden cottage, light the stove, raise a mug of local beer (and maybe dance around like total maniacs) before warming up with the infamous shark aperitif: yes, fermented shark.

And if you’re lucky, you might even see the Northern Lights! Although, after a few shark bites and beers, you may think you see them either way…

2. Lapland: where even Santa Claus feels cold!

Do you like the cold?

Good, because New Year’s Eve in Lapland isn’t just a celebration—it’s an Arctic endurance test! The weather here makes your freezer feel like a tropical spa, but trust us, it’s amazing.

It starts with overexcited huskies in party hats pulling you on a sleigh, then racing off on snowmobiles into the absolute middle of nowhere: snowy forests, frozen lakes, and a nose turning as red as Rudolph’s.

But the real madness comes with a dip in the Baltic Sea: you jump in among the ice wearing a floating survival suit and just stay there.

And in the evening?

That’s when things get serious: a visit to Santa Claus Village, where we’ll try to track down the old man and ask him a few questions about all the times he didn’t bring what we asked for. Because some things are impossible to forget. Ever.

3. India: thieving monkeys, tigers, and sloth bears

Tired of the usual New Year’s Eves with drunk relatives and tombola games ending in arguments?

India is waiting for you with color, chaos, and kleptomaniac monkeys!

We start in Jaipur, the Pink City, with the amazing Galtaji Temple, also famous for its macaques that seem straight out of a heist movie!

From Jaipur to Pushkar, the City of Roses, it’s a short step. Here, the Brahma Temple makes you feel tiny in the grand scheme of creation, while the markets and bazaars lure you in with such incredible things that you end up buying a giant carpet… even if you live in a studio apartment with barely enough room to dry your socks!

And if you happen to catch the Camel Fair, well, that’s hitting the jackpot: camel beauty contests worthy of a pageant, plus dancing and music everywhere. The only bangs you’ll hear here are from people who overdid it with the curry…

Then it’s time to get serious: Ranthambore National Park, where tigers are the true queens of the land. And if you don’t spot one, there are always sloth bears or the gigantic banyan tree, which looks like the set of a Disney film.

But the real highlight is Varanasi, the city where the Ganges sparkles in the morning amid prayers and rituals that make you forget everything else. Here, the soul of India sweeps you away, and when evening returns, you realize this is the kind of New Year’s Eve you’ll remember for the rest of your life. Forget cheap sparkling wine and cold lentils!

4. Morocco: New Year’s Eve among dunes, mint tea, and breathtaking stars

Have you ever thought about trading the usual fireworks for a sky that looks like a quilt stitched with stars? Morocco is the place to do it.

Picture yourself in the heart of the Sahara Desert, sitting on a dune, surrounded by the deepest silence you’ve ever heard, broken only by the crackling of a campfire. Forget the town-square DJ blasting the same old hits!

But that’s not all. Here, the journey begins with the means of transport itself: you’ll be riding a camel. It’s slow, swaying, dripping with sticky saliva, and somehow you end up with sand everywhere—but just imagine the charm.

And if you think the night is all meditation and silence, wait until you see how lively the Berber camp gets: traditional music, stories under the stars, and a steaming glass of mint tea hot enough to wake up your insides!

And the food? Forget bland canapés or uninspiring holiday sweets—here you’ll be treated to a richly spiced tagine, cooked veeeery slowly until it bursts with flavor!

Oh, and let’s not forget the souks. Forget rushing to the supermarket at the last minute for frozen party snacks: in Moroccan bazaars you’ll find everything, from rugs that don’t fly but are still amazing, to lamps that can turn any room into a disco. Every corner is an adventure, and every negotiation is a challenge to the bitter end!

5. Japan: New Year’s Eve between the future, tradition, and delightfully absurd moments

Let’s end in style with Tokyo: the first pit stop is the statue of Hachiko, the most loyal dog in history.

Does it make you emotional? Almost. Does it make you feel a little guilty for not taking your dog to the park the day before you left? Maybe a bit…

Then it’s off to Tsukiji Market, where you can feast on ultra-fresh sushi and sashimi—enough to make you forget the usual holiday dinner.

Ah, and Shibuya: the most famous crossing in the world. Crossing it on New Year’s Eve feels like a rite of passage. Forget firecrackers—the energy here is on another level!

And then, come on, a few extra wild experiences! Sleep in a traditional ryokan, with tatami mats, futons, and tea served in a ceremonial way. Or check into a futuristic capsule hotel that makes you feel like the star of a sci-fi movie.

But the real gem? Go-karting through the streets of Shibuya! Just be careful: if you overdo it with the sake on New Year’s Eve, you might end up steering your go-kart onto the highway. And then it’s goodbye sushi.

New Year’s Eve in Japan isn’t just a celebration—it’s an experience that fills you with life. Forget party trains and karaoke: this is how you start big!

No excuses this year: start 2025 in a CRAZY good way!

Let’s be honest: New Year’s Eve 2025 can’t be just another dull evening with tombola and cotechino. Whether you choose the Northern Lights in Iceland, the tigers of Rajasthan, or the dunes of Morocco, one thing is certain: it will be an experience you’ll carry with you forever.

Get ready to say goodbye to the old year with style, fun, and a healthy dose of madness!
