When to go to Namibia

If you’re looking for someone to tell you when to go to Namibia, it means:

  1. You haven’t been there yet: NOT GOOD

  2. You can go there with the best Namibia experts and enthusiasts in the world you could ever meet — namely, us: VERY GOOD. You can find our Namibia adventure trip here.

Since you clicked on this blog article, we’ll still give you two or three tips.

When to go to Namibia

Long story short: the best time to go to Namibia is between May and October, which coincides with the winter and dry season. We’ll explain why below, month by month.

May, June, July and August: YES

The rains come to an end and the dry season begins. It’s warm, and all the animals start gathering along the riverbanks in search of water. The predators gather too, to hunt the animals looking for water. Ah, the circle of life. This is one of the best times to spot wildlife! So if you were wondering at the beginning when to go to Namibia: YES, these are great months.

September, October: YES

If you love photography, definitely mark down these two months, because September and October are absolutely YES months for taking pictures. The rainy season is about to arrive, the animals know it, and they don’t want to miss the last sunny days wandering around the savannah. Wildlife viewing is at its best!

When not to go to Namibia

The worst time to go to Namibia is during the rainy season, which usually runs from January to about March. Of course, it always depends on the weather, which lately has been throwing all seasonal patterns off balance.

November, December, April: MAYBE

Why challenge the rain and leave in these months when you could go earlier?! In November, the rain starts, and you’ll see more green plants than animals around... If you want to know exactly why, read here. There’s no law stopping you from going to Namibia in November, but since you’re the one who gets to choose... why would you?

January, February, March: NO

One of the main reasons to come to Namibia (though not the only one!) is to go on an amazing safari in Etosha National Park. For this reason, you really shouldn’t go to Namibia in JANUARY AND FEBRUARY. Make a note of it: NO, just don’t do it. Since these two months are right in the middle of the rainy season, animals are harder to spot at the waterholes. The rainy season lasts until April (more or less — it depends on the year).

Now that you know when to go, all that’s left is to figure out who to go with! And to answer that question, you don’t need a blog article, just a link: check out our NAMIBIA ADVENTURE TRIP.
