What to see in Oman in 7 days

A whole bunch of amazing stuff—seriously amazing! Check it all out!

Everyone asks the same thing: but where exactly is Oman?

It’s next to Yemen. Head down toward the Suez Canal, keep going straight for quite a while, take the first left, and there it is on your side.

Anyway, that’s where it is. If you can’t find it, you can always ask for directions.

But if you want, we’ll take you there so you won’t get lost. We’ll do the driving!

Here are the places we want to show you on an epic 7-day tour of Oman.

Muscat, Oman’s big capital

First stop: Muscat, the capital of Oman, offering a perfect blend of modernity and tradition.

Here we’ll visit the beautiful Mutrah Souq and the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque: absolutely stunning. Don’t worry, we’ll help you pick your jaw up off the floor when you see it. That service is included in our tour…

We really love Muscat, a lot, but we can’t spend too much time surrounded by civilization. What we truly love lies outside the capital, and we head there in style with our 4x4 jeeps.

The Wahiba Desert

Ah, the Wahiba Sands desert: sweat, sand in places you didn’t even know existed, and much more.

Here the dunes can reach breathtaking heights. And when we say “breathtaking,” we mean you may want to keep a paper bag handy. Some of them rise over 100 meters!

But the most thrilling experience you can have in this desert comes at night, when the sun sets behind the dunes: Oman’s starry sky, visible in all its beauty without the awful light pollution we’re used to in our cities.

How amazing is that?

Just when you think you’ve gotten used to the desert… boom! There’s a natural pool ready for a swim!

It’s the oasis of Wadi Bani Khalid, with its crystal-clear waters and natural waterfalls that make you say, “Wait, really? Right here?”

Yes, right here, in the middle of the desert, and no, it’s not a mirage.

Of course we all enjoy a nice swim in this natural paradise—but no rubber ducks: we don’t want to attract unwanted attention.

The holiest of holes

Here’s a quick quiz: what’s deep, blue, and looks like a giant swimming pool carved by a giant with impeccable taste?

We’re talking about the Bimah Sinkhole, which is basically what happens when the Earth says, “Hey, let’s make a hole!” and then fills it with turquoise water just because it looks beautiful.

And that’s exactly what it is: a large hole carved by nature into the rock, filled with spectacularly colored water. And it’s really big: about 50 meters across at its narrowest point and 70 meters at its widest.

Not too far from there, there’s another fantastic place for those who know what really matters in this increasingly (un)civilized world: the Ras al Jinz nature reserve, home to specimens of the green turtle.

It’s a gentle and beautiful reptile, unfortunately becoming rarer and increasingly endangered because of (of course) the most violent animal of all: humans.

Among the causes of its disappearance from many beaches is the spread of uncontrolled mass tourism in seaside destinations. That’s why we feel a little better about entering this animal’s habitat gently and watching in respectful silence as the eggs hatch and the baby turtles are born.

Another great capital of Oman (the more beautiful one)

Have you ever seen the Pearl of Islam?

It’s Oman’s ancient capital, Nizwa, located in the north of the country.

Let’s start with its famous fort. The Nizwa Fort is not just a piece of ancient architecture; it’s a massive and impressive structure dating back to the 17th century, with only one drawback: it’s one of Oman’s most visited attractions, so it draws plenty of tourists.

But to see this beauty, we can make an exception and join the crowd for once.

And then there’s the souq, just like the one in Muscat, with its markets full of typical local handicrafts.

But wait! Nizwa isn’t just forts and markets!

Have you ever heard of the Grand Mosque of Nizwa? Well, it’s big. Really big. The kind of big where you could get lost looking for the exit.

In conclusion

The wonders of Oman make it a truly breathtaking country.

Deserts with enormous sand dunes, huge natural pools, monuments overflowing with the beauty of Islamic culture, lively markets, and much more.

In short, Oman is a country where nature and history coexist in perfect harmony, a place that never stops surprising, that welcomes you warmly (quite literally too!) and proudly showcases its traditions and culture.

The places we’ve mentioned in this article are just some of the amazing spots you can visit. But there are many more that leave us completely enchanted every time we return.

How about visiting them with us on a journey across all of Oman?
