Sekumpul Waterfalls in Bali: a natural wonder to visit at least once in a lifetime

Imagine walking through a lush, vibrant landscape, surrounded by mountains and rice terraces.

Now imagine hearing the sound of water rushing down from the waterfalls, breathing in the cool air, and feeling like you’re in a place unlike any other in the world. This is the experience that awaits you at Sekumpul Waterfall, one of Bali’s most beautiful natural wonders.

To transport your mind to Bali, we’ll tell you all about it in this article…

Everything you need to know about Bali’s most beautiful waterfalls

What to expect from Sekumpul Waterfall

Let’s make one thing clear right away: Sekumpul Waterfall is different from the other waterfalls in Bali. It’s not just one or two cascades, but no fewer than seven waterfalls in one area.

There are also two waterfalls in particular and a spring framed by green trees covering the hillside — an incredible sight to behold.

The first waterfall features a single flowing stream of water, while the second is taller than the first and has a shape that resembles a kind of curtain or veil — this waterfall is fed by a river current.

The cool water plunging from eighty meters high and the lush trees ensure that anyone will be amazed and fall in love instantly with this natural spectacle.

Getting down here does require a fair amount of effort, with dirt trails, around a hundred steps, and stream crossings, but once you reach the waterfall… well, you’ll know it was absolutely worth it.

The hike to Sekumpul Waterfall? It’s fairly easy — or rather, moderate.

It’s not dangerous, but the steep walk up and down to the waterfalls is a great workout, and it takes about 30 to 60 minutes to get there, depending on where you park.

In any case, even before you start the hike, you’ll be enchanted by the view. As we mentioned earlier, the scenery in northern Bali is incredible: steep green mountains and rice terraces in every direction!

Sekumpul Waterfall: address and map location

Sekumpul Waterfall is located in the small village of Sekumpul, in the Sawan district, Buleleng regency, in northern Bali.

The village is about a one-hour drive southeast of Lovina Beach and roughly two and a half to three hours by car from Denpasar and the Kuta area.

When is the best time to visit Sekumpul Waterfall?

In general, our advice is to visit Bali and, in particular, its famous waterfalls, during the summer season (June, July, and August).

Keep in mind, however, that this is also when many travelers visit. So, an alternative option is to go in September, when the weather is still good but the crowds are smaller.

Other Bali waterfalls that are worth a visit

Northern Bali is a waterfall paradise. If you’re planning to spend a day discovering the best waterfalls in Bali’s northern region, you can combine many others with Sekumpul.

Some of them are listed below.

GitGit Twin Waterfall

This is a beautiful two-tier waterfall flanked by cliffs and hidden inside a cave. Here, two river streams meet and create two separate flows of water that form GitGit Twin Waterfall.

At about 20 meters high, GitGit Waterfall is not only beautiful to look at, but it also has a lovely pool where you can cool off. There’s also a zipline you can use to unleash your inner Tarzan or Jane.

Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall

Still somewhat undiscovered, the Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall is truly a hidden gem. This collection of four waterfalls is tucked away and requires a bit of walking, so you’ll need some time to explore them all.

It feels like walking through a large garden filled with colorful plants — a great activity if you’re looking for a waterfall away from Bali’s beaten paths and mainstream spots.

Aling Aling Waterfall

Aling Aling Waterfall is a group of four cascades that are great fun to explore. If you’re an adrenaline lover, you can go cliff jumping at three of the waterfalls, but not at Aling Aling itself, which is the tallest (35 meters).

To see all four waterfalls, there’s only a short walk to do — and it’s absolutely worth it.

Banyumala Waterfall

The beautiful Banyumala Waterfall is very close to Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall. At its base, there’s also a natural pool where you can take a dip.
