When is the best time to visit Turkey?

In summer you melt, in winter you freeze: here’s the guide you need so you won’t get caught unprepared!

Let’s be honest: Turkey is absolutely amazing! But like all great things, it has its “what the heck?!” moments.

Wildly changeable weather, regions that are completely different from one another—it’s a bit of a mess, really!

But don’t worry, because I’m here to tell you the best time to go without wasting your hard-earned (or maybe not—who am I to judge?) savings.

Grab your umbrella—or rather, your sunscreen—no, wait, your umbrel... anyway, let’s begin!

Turkey: the ultimate climate chaos! Every area has its ideal season…

Let’s face it: Turkey is a bit like an ex—unpredictable. It has three main climate zones:

Istanbul: the city that never sleeps

Istanbul is a special case.

It has a “transitional Mediterranean” climate, which basically means: be ready for anything!

Winters are cold, with temperatures that can drop quite a bit. Snow is not unusual, and when it happens, Istanbul turns into a whirlwind of traffic, people slipping on sidewalks, and taxi drivers asking for a fortune to take you home.

Summers, on the other hand, are another story: hot and humid.

During this season, temperatures can exceed 35°C (95°F), and the humidity certainly doesn’t help.

We recommend the sea only in peak summer, in July and August, when the water reaches acceptable temperatures!

Even so, Istanbul is incredibly cool all year round. You just need to dress like an artichoke ready to be fried. You might get a day of brilliant sunshine or a sudden snowstorm, but the important thing is to always carry an umbrella, a scarf, and plenty of self-control!

So, when on earth should I go? The definitive answer (maybe)

So, to sum up:

Extra tip: if you want to visit northeastern Turkey, go between May and September. The rest of the year is too cold to enjoy it fully.
