Sri Lanka by School Bus

A new slow-paced journey, this time in Sri Lanka, by school bus.

Before departure, a fundraising campaign was launched together with the Specchio dei tempi Foundation of La Stampa to purchase a school bus to donate to girls who are victims of abuse in the village of Ibbawale, in southern Sri Lanka.

The Specchio dei tempi Children’s Village in Ibbawale is a “safe place” where girls who are victims of abuse or abandonment are welcomed and cared for. By working together with local courts and monks from the Southern Province, it is possible to offer an oasis of peace and serenity to girls and young women whose lives have been marked by tragic and painful experiences.

In five family homes, the young guests receive support with their studies and can also attend computer, sewing, and painting classes taught by Italian Civil Service volunteers.

Before reaching the final destination and making the donation, the school bus traveled all around Sri Lanka to properly break in the engine of the huge yellow bus and to share this wonderful idea with everyone.

So, to sum it up: we had a brand-new yellow school bus all to ourselves, with the plastic still on the seats. And it was absolutely amazing.

A lot happened during the trip! Gab and Ludo told the whole story on Kilimangiaro in 4 episodes.

Or, if you’d rather be there in person and “see Sri Lanka live,” you can always take a look at our SRI LANKA ADVENTURE TRIP.
