What to see in Lapland in winter (and beyond)

Trains, snowmobiles, huskies and icebreakers: which one do you prefer? With us, you get them all!

Whether it’s winter, summer, autumn or spring, Lapland is always absolutely amazing!

I know what you’re thinking: what are you talking about? It’s all snow, snow and more snow — how boring!

Well, you’d be wrong: Lapland is packed with incredible experiences, especially when you explore it with Sto Gran Tour. We’ll take you to Santa Claus on the Polar Express, race through the snow on snowmobiles (or dog-powered sleds!), and cruise across the Baltic Sea in full-on style aboard a real icebreaker.

Now wipe that drool off your face and read the rest of the article: we’ve put together the highlights of the Lapland tour organized by Sto Gran Tour.

Rovaniemi: home of the world’s liveliest old man (not Gianni Morandi — the other one in red and white)

Welcome to the beating heart of Lapland traditions, where magic isn’t just an idea, but an everyday reality!

Rovaniemi is the kind of place that makes kids and grown-ups alike go starry-eyed. 😍

It’s the real Santa Claus Village, the only place where you can meet him in person every day of the year — even in August (assuming he’s back from vacation. Otherwise, try again another time).

Here, in the heart of the city, the bearded old man runs his operation with the help of a post office that receives letters from all over the world.

In his village, you can even visit the reindeer farm and take gingerbread decorating classes. The definitive Christmas experience.

But Rovaniemi isn’t just about Santa Claus. This city is also a masterpiece of Arctic architecture.

From glass cabins, where you can fall asleep beneath the Northern Lights, to snow hotels that look like they’ve come straight out of a fairy tale, every corner is a work of art. And if you’ve always dreamed of sipping a cocktail in an ice bar, this is where dreams come true.

Finally, if you love history and culture, the Arktikum Museum is waiting for you. Here you can learn everything about the region, from Sámi life to Arctic exploration. It’s a fascinating journey through the traditions and legends of this magical land.

The spectacle of Lapland’s nature

Did someone say “Northern Lights”?

Yes, that was us a moment ago when we mentioned Rovaniemi, but now we want to talk about them properly. Because yes, you probably think you already know everything about this phenomenon. Maybe you’ve already seen it on another trip, but trust us: here in Lapland, the light show in the night sky is an absolutely incredible experience.

This area is rightly considered one of the best stages in the world for watching the Northern Lights. And having seen them over and over again among Lapland’s snowy landscapes, we can only confirm it. For us, it’s a definite yes.

And then there’s the region’s wild, untouched nature, which is simply breathtaking.

Lapland is also the kingdom of fairy-tale forests, home to adorable reindeer and majestic moose. Walking through these snow-covered woods is like stepping into a storybook, with every step bringing you closer to an enchanted world.

The forests here are so rich in charm and mystery that they’re a paradise for photography and hiking lovers. In fact, during our tour, a beautiful walk through the snow in the middle of this landscape is part of the experience.

And on our feet, of course, we wear those things that look a bit like tennis rackets. Apparently they’re called snowshoes.

What a thing...

What awaits you if you come to Lapland with us (and no, that’s not a threat)

So far, this Lapland sounds a little too calm.

You thought it, didn’t you?

Sure, Santa Claus Village is cool, the snow-covered fairy-tale forests are beautiful, but you want something a little more thrilling, right?

You asked for it, so here you go: when we head to Lapland, we enjoy an epic snowmobile ride across the snow. We speed through the wilderness for a full 5 hours — and this experience is included in the price of our Lapland tour!

Are snowmobiles too small for you?

Then hop aboard for a trip across the Baltic Sea on a real icebreaker ship. Tons of steel taking on those floating slabs of ice like it’s nothing.

Is the icebreaker not cozy enough?

Alright, we’ve got the answer for that too: during the Lapland tour, we’ll even take you on a sled ride pulled by a pack of beautiful huskies, ready to dash through the snow with tongues out wherever we guide them.

Dogs too furry for you, and you prefer cats?

You’re on your own there.

In conclusion

We’ve reached the end of our journey (virtual, at least for now) through Lapland — not just a place to visit, but a dream to live.

And if you think the region has nothing more to offer than what we’ve described in this article, you’re very much mistaken! There are plenty of other incredible things to see and do in Lapland!
