The Fagradalsfjall volcano in Iceland

What have we always told you about Iceland? That’s right: it’s incredibly beautiful and delightfully unpredictable!
And once again, it has managed to amaze us with a completely unexpected spectacle. We’re talking about the Fagradalsfjall volcano.

The volcano: an incredible spectacle

After more than 800 years of silence, Iceland’s Fagradalsfjall volcano, located on the Reykjanes Peninsula, has awakened with a phenomenal eruption. Although Iceland is famous for its lava fields and volcanoes (do you remember the 2021 eruption of Eyjafjöll, which grounded flights across much of Europe?!), what has happened at Fagradalsfjall is truly unique.

What makes this event so special is that the eruptions of the volcano, which is still active today, can be safely observed from quite close up. In fact, in addition to the eruption itself, the crater’s strategic location—set in a valley rather than on a mountaintop—makes it visible and accessible to many more people. The eruption also created a fissure, from which glowing lava continues to flow.

Want to see the Fagradalsfjall volcano?

We love Iceland, and there was no way we could miss this phenomenal event. And of course, we couldn’t let you miss it either! That’s why, for the summer, we decided to add a visit to the Fagradalsfjall volcano to our Iceland Tours. We’ll get close to the crater to admire one of the world’s most stunning geological phenomena: the ongoing volcanic eruption and the lava flow.

Take a look at our ICELAND CAMPER TOUR, and come see a volcano for yourself.
