How much does a safari in Tanzania cost?

How much does a safari in Tanzania cost?

Going on safari is generally expensive. Many factors affect the price of the experience: conservation activities in the national parks, the number of permits issued each year, and the type of safari. Tanzania is no exception: the cost of a safari here is significant! But don’t worry—because in this article we break down the actual costs and suggest a reasonable solution.

What is the budget for a safari in Tanzania?

The cost of a safari varies depending on the type of accommodation and the safari style: there are luxury options, such as lodges, and more adventurous options, such as campsites. Costs by category can be roughly divided as follows:

To give a general idea, a fairly standard safari in Tanzania that includes, for example, 6 days on the northern circuit—including the Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, and Tarangire National Park—costs about $350 per person per day, all inclusive, with a 4x4 jeep, guide, cook, fuel, and park entrance fees. Or about US$200 if you are in a group of 4. Costs increase if you also want to include Serengeti National Park (which is almost impossible to leave out of your itinerary).

Not counting guides, who, according to an unspoken agreement described as “optional” but in reality anything but optional, usually expect a tip of around $40 per day.

How much does entry to Tanzania’s parks cost?

To give you an idea, here is an overview of the daily entrance fees for Tanzania’s national parks for the 2022 season:

Every year, park fees change (and usually increase). This is the official Parks website where you can check the latest rates: TANAPA.

How can you save money on a safari?

At Sto Gran Tour, to lower the cost of the safari experience and make the trip as budget-friendly as possible, we travel in Tanzania using a group travel format: we organize trips for groups of 15 people, traveling in 4x4 jeeps and sleeping at campsites. This allows us to significantly reduce the cost of a conventional safari in Tanzania. The experience is shared with people of a similar age, between 20 and 45 years old, so you can travel with a group that has the same travel vibe and similar needs.
